Who Are We?
We are not ‘Generation X’. We are not ‘Baby-boomers’. We are not ‘Nexters’. We’re not young, nor are we old. Who the Hell are we?
We breached the birth canal into the violence of the Vietnam War and the sounds of The Beatles. We grew into an America that decided to ignore much of what was going on. Oblivious and innocent, we decided to invent our own brand of music. Disco.
Disco dies before 1980. So, what else did we do? Oh, we did quite a lot. We have Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft; and the birth of the “yuppie” (young urban professional). Don’t get me wrong…Gates changed the World as we see it, and so might have the ‘yuppies’.
Most of us do not fit into any of those categories. None of us will ever be a Bill Gates. A lot of us will try to be ‘yuppies’, though we won’t succeed. And just to let you know, the ‘Nexters’ have taken over the ‘Yuppie” role (they won’t succeed either).
So, it seems to me that we are the children of the ‘Boomers’ and we gave birth to the ‘Nexters’ and ‘generation X’. We have no title. We have no recognition for our role in this society.
Calling all forty-something people out there…how do you feel about OUR GENERATION?
